On behalf of the Uganda Manufacturers Association, I warmly welcome all local and international exhibitors, participants and visitors to this year's Fair.

When UGITF was initiated in 1993, 220 exhibitors from eight countries participated. This number has steadily risen and last year, we received 460 exhibitors from 25 countries. Today, UGITF is Uganda's leading annual International Trade Fair and a well-established business event on the regional trade calendar.

Our Association continues to champion industrialization and balanced development as a way of exploiting our country's natural abundant resources. We believe that the future success of our national economy depends on a large measure on mutually beneficial business interaction between our entrepreneurs and international investors. We therefore urge the international business community to join us in establishing joint venture partnerships and other forms of business co-operation.

I would like to thank all our esteemed visitors for their support and encouragement since we launched the International Trade Fair in 1993. Let me also thank members of the Association for the commitment and enthusiasm they have always shown for the Trade Fair and other business promotion events organized by the Association.

My appreciation also goes to the foreign exhibitors for choosing to participate in the Uganda International Trade Fair.

Last but not least, I wish to commend our Government for its efforts to establish and maintain a conducive atmosphere favourable for rapid investment and business growth.
